How to Burn Calories–Without Even Knowing It

Apparently, there are ways to burn a few extra calories against your very knowledge! (does this mean I can burn calories while I’m sitting on my couch?) YES!

1. When you hop on the escalator at the mall…Don’t just stand there, it’s not a ride at Disney. Climb the stairs too!

2. Instead of taking all your groceries up to your kitchen at once, take them one bag at a time. Or better yet, take one in each hand, and lift them up and down while you’re walking.

3. If you have the choice between sitting or standing-stand. Simply standing burns 36 more calories an hour than sitting.

4. Rake leaves instead of using a leaf blower.

5. Scrub your floors. Yes, like Cinderella-get down and dirty.

6. Chew sugar free gum. The action of your jaw muscles moving up and down burns 11 calories an hour.

7. Wash your car by hand.

8. Get out there and play with your kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids, dog, your grandkids dog, whatever.

9. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

10. Go shopping-at the actual store. Save the online shopping for a rainy day, and use the mall trip as your cardio.

11. Hold your stomach in while you’re sitting at your desk.

12. Walk to lunch instead of drive.

13. Work on your garden yourself instead of hiring a gardener. Not only will it save you money, but you’ll get that super hot body in the process.

14. Take a five minute break from your work and take a stroll around the office.

15. STRETCH!

16. Get a contraption that you can use while you’re sitting on the couch watching TV–Suzanne Summers “Thighmaster”, some free weights, etc.

17. Make out! Ok, maybe this is an inappropriate topic. BUT kissing burns calories in the same way that chewing gum does.

18. Laugh-hearty, side-splitting laughter can burn up to 30 calories in a half hour period.

19. Eat celery or apples. Doctors say it burns more calories eating them than they contain themselves.

20. Last but not least… SMILE! It takes more muscles to smile than it does to frown.
